We provide good puddle duck hunting in Delaware and New Jersey. Both our Delaware duck hunting and New Jersey duck hunting are done on large tidal marshes that rarely freeze. Tidal marshes generally provide good feeding and loafing areas on a low tide. All of our blinds are accessible even on an extreme low tide. These areas can provide excellent gunning for blacks, mallards and teal when conditions are right.
New Jersey
Our New Jersey duck hunting is generally done on large expanses of tidal marsh. We have had the same blinds for many years so we generally know when to hunt them (which wind, tide, late or early season etc.) We harvest birds all season but generally do best in bad weather- rain, wind, ice. The season generally starts in mid October and runs thru the first week of January. Due to lack of pressure, our New Jersey duck hunting is usually good.
Delaware
Our Delaware duck hunting takes place on both large and small tidal ditches. We have blinds near Bombay Hook Wildlife refuge that can produce excellent early season teal gunning. We also have blinds on large tidal ditches that border Prime Hook wildlife refuge. These blinds are good in early with a little weather and can be very good late season when the fresh water ponds in the refuge ice over. Since the 9,900 acre refuge is fresh water impoundments, these blinds can produce a large variety of ducks- mallards, blacks, gadwall, wigeon and teal.
Summary
Other than opening days, duck hunting is usually weather dependent. Wind, rain and cold all help in producing a good day for gunning puddlers. Since our area (in general) provides better goose hunting than duck duck hunting, weather is needed to make a difference. Of course, there will be some sunny and calm days when you will also have good gunning.
Due to lack of pressure, our puddle duck hunting is usually good. We only hunt puddlers 5-6 days a season from these blinds and most are in good locations to begin with.
