Our Hunting Areas – Delaware and Maryland
Delaware Canada Goose Hunting
Most of our Canada Goose Hunting in Delaware takes place along the Delaware Bay between the 17,000 acre Bombay Hook National Wildlife Area and the 4,500 acre Little Creek Wildlife Area. These two refuges can winter in excess of 40, 000 Canada Geese. Both have fresh water impoundments for the birds. Both refuges also border the Delaware Bay giving the birds open water should the impoundments freeze.
We have 14 farms surrounding these refuges and the Delaware Bay. These are large farms that are traditionally used by Canada Geese over the years. All are planted in corn or soybean. Since we mostly do snow goose hunting, Canada goose hunting is usually very productive do to lack of hunting pressure.
Maryland Canada Goose Hunting
With over 200 square miles of cornfields combined with hundreds of creeks, coves, holding ponds and the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland’s famed Eastern Shore winters over 500, 000 Canada geese.
Our 9 farms on Maryland’s Eastern Shore are all surrounded by holding ponds, creeks and the Chesapeake Bay. Our farms range in size from 90 acres to 400 acres. Most farms are left with an acre of standing corn to provide food throughout the season and sometimes a place to blend in a blind. It is not unusual to see 15, 000-20,000 birds on a Maryland Canada goose hunt.
Scouting
We do scout for Canada geese though not as extensively as for Snow Geese. Canada geese tend winter in an area for the entire season. We do scout to watch their flight patterns, wind direction, how many birds etc.
Decoys and Calling
The key to successful Canada goose hunting is the location of your farms. Just as important are the decoys and calling. We use GHG Full Bodies and Big Foot decoys for our Canada goose hunting. Our guides are all excellent callers. Knowing when to call or not call is just as important as knowing how to call.
Blinds and Pits
All of our Maryland Canada goose hunting and Delaware Canada goose hunting is done from either pits or blinds blended into standing corn. Both of these types of concealment are very deadly and popular. We also hunt from Final Approach ground blinds when necessary. |
